Drug testing and other stats show drugs not just a young issue

You don’t need to be young to take drugs or drink alcohol and do silly things, as a recent roadside drug testing incident in Tasmania has confirmed.

While many people think illicit drugs and taking risks with drugs and alcohol is a young person’s issue, as a recent roadside drug testing in Tasmania attests, this is not the case.

The incident involved a 59-year-old women, who was stopped by police at Sorell, Tasmania, a short distance from Hobart. According to an article on the Mirage News website, officers from Southern Traffic and Policing Services stopped the driver because they detected that the vehicle was unregistered.

Upon further investigation, they discovered the driver was unlicensed. Roadside drug testing produced a positive result and the officers also located a quantity of cannabis in the vehicle.

The driver faces a list of charges, including drug driving.

Of course, this is just one example and it’s not just drugs. Older people are often drinking alcohol and then taking risks.

In another example, this one from South Australia, a woman driver failed roadside alcohol testing. The amazing thing about this incident is she allegedly blew 0.287, nearly six times the legal limit.

The driver in this case, as reported by South Australia Police, was another 59-year-old woman. She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Are risks with drugs and alcohol only confined to young people? What do you think?
