Queensland Police has revealed a new strategy targeting drugs operations and roadside drug testing in the Mackay area.

As revealed in the Courier Mail, police will use a two-pronged strategy, called Operation Hotshot, in a relentless crackdown on illicit drug operations and impaired driving, including:

  • Operation Hotshot, which will focus on selected suburbs and towns throughout the region with high-visibility roadside drug testing and alcohol testing.
  • Additional crews will execute search warrants of suspect properties.

The article highlighted that the first instalment of Operation Hotshot in Bakers Creek, six arrests were made, including one 35-year-old man charged with supply of dangerous drugs. Meanwhile, police performed 682 roadside breath tests and 13 drug tests with one positive result for each.

“There will be at least six more phases spread randomly throughout the remainder of the year,” Senior Sergeant Scott Ingram said in the article. “But if the need is there and the intelligence is available then we will be doing it more often.”
