If you operate a Class 1 commercial vessel (13 or more passengers) you must have a blood alcohol level of zero. If you operate any other vessel the legal limit is 0.05, although Maritime Safety Queensland recommends a zero limit for all commercial vessel skippers.
Think you can set anchor to enjoy a few beers and let the alcohol wear off before setting away? Think again. The blood alcohol limits apply even when you are at anchor, so if you are asked to conduct alcohol testing you could get caught. Only skippers of boats that are moored to a marina, jetty or wharf, or on a swing mooring, are exempt.
