After a big weekend, which saw you using a variety of drugs and enjoying a few drinks to boot, you’re ready for another week of work. But before you head off to work you get out your secret weapon. The mouthwash you purchased after Googling ‘Can you beat saliva drug testing?’
After a quick swig, faithfully following the directions, it’s in the car and off to work. There’s no roadside drug testing to worry about on the way to work and the traffic is light, so you quickly make it to the car park and before you know it your chatting about the weekend’s footy with mates on the work-site.
The morning goes smoothly. You do your best to do as little as possible, as you’re still feeling a little hungover from the weekend. A bite to eat at lunch, then another quick swig of the mouthwash, just in case. And lucky you did, because you’re hit with random workplace saliva drug testing straight after lunch. No problems you think, as you’re asked to blow into the collection device. You paid good money for the mouthwash and you’re confident it’s going to work… Before you’re hit with the bad news. You record a positive drug test and you’re soon being led off to the boss’ office.
As we’ve mentioned in our blog before (see How can you pass workplace drug testing), there is only two ways to pass saliva drug testing. The first – and the best one for your health – is to not take drugs at all. The second is to take drugs only when you are not going to be driving or working for a good length of time.
How long? It does depend on a variety of circumstances, such as what drugs you take and how many, as well as individual factors, but in general you’ll need at lest 24 to 48 hours from taking your last drug. This is just a guide, however, so play it safe and add a few hours to these numbers.
And as for searching for ‘Can you beat saliva drug testing’? Save your effort and money forking out for what amounts to snake oil as time is the only thing that will help.
