Truck drivers who use drugs while they are behind the wheel are being targeted by the Victorian Police, with more roadside checks to be carried out, according to a recent article in the Herald Sun.
The move comes after significant concern in the community and the media about an alleged increase in drug-abusing truck drivers.
As well as increasing roadside checks, the Victorian Police has called on the transport industry to support them, by doing more to identify and deal with drivers with drug issues. In the Herald Sun article, Detective Inspector Bernie Ranking said that transport companies need to take more ownership of the issue. He added that one of the ways companies can do this is by implementing workplace drug testing for their employees.
