We’re positive – ICE and methamphetamines a major concern

There’s a lot of media these days about the drug ICE and its prevalence in our community and, if recent testing is anything to go by, ICE and other methamphetamine drugs are also a major concern in our workforce.

The attached graph shows a breakdown of the type of drugs detected by Integrity Sampling in the most recent 12-month period ending in June this year. The graph shows positive drug testing results displayed by industry, including transportation, warehousing, manufacturing and other industries.

What is ICE?

ICE is a stimulant drug that speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and the body. In the graph, it’s represented in the family of drugs called methamphetamines, which also includes another well known drug, speed.

ICE gets its name because it generally comes in small crystals that resemble frozen water. It is usually clear but can also be white or a brown colour. ICE and speed are quite similar, however, ICE is the more purer form of the drug and therefore generally stronger, more addictive and more harmful than speed.
