10-minutes to drug and alcohol education ecstasy

Think you don’t have time for drug and alcohol education in your SA business? A quick, effective 10-minute session could help prevent an incident.

If you’re a workplace manager in South Australia and you don’t think you have time for drug and alcohol education, think again. Even a 10-minute session can pay dividends.

Introducing SafeWork South Australia’s toolbox safety talks. A series of short presentations – designed to last for around 10 minutes – on work and health safety topics, including drugs and alcohol.

Each 10-minute presentation includes a scenario to promote discussion. In the case of the drug and alcohol education, the SafeWork South Australia toolbox talk uses the example of a transport incident.

The incident highlights a fatality involving a commercial vehicle driver, who dies when his truck leaves the road in a single-vehicle incident. Investigations discovered the driver had been awake for a long period and may have fallen asleep. A pathologist’s examination showed evidence of both alcohol and prescription stimulant medication in the driver’s body.

The drug and alcohol presentation also includes a discussion on the importance of workplace drug and alcohol policies and how health and safety is everyone’s responsibility.

You can find the drug and alcohol education, along with 10 other 10-minute safety presentations, on the SafeWork South Australia website.

You’ll also find valuable information on drug and alcohol education on other parts of the website, including our Resources pages and in our blogs.
